Sharing diagnostic images through XDS saves costs drastically in comparison to sharing images by DVDs. Moreover, faster image exchange will allow for providing better care. By creating a national XDS network in the Netherlands, we can ensure that DVDs and CDs will no longer be required for sharing images in health care in the Netherlands by the end of 2020.
This was a recent statement of Mr Wim Hodes, Board member of RSO Nederland (umbrella organisation of Dutch HIE Organisations) and Director of Stichting GERRIT (cooperation platform on IT for Dutch healthcare providers in the North of the Netherlands), made during the seminar "XDS - ready for take-off", which was organised by MedicalPHIT. Mr Hodes shared the following details on the use of XDS in the North of the Netherlands:

The Success of XDS
The success of XDS is demonstrated by the fact that the number of reported patients and studies per year is still increasing. Moreover, soon after the introduction of the XDS network in the North of the Netherlands, image sharing by XDS became cheaper than sharing by DVDs. And by now cost savings are indisputable, as the number of reported patients and studies has increased. Handling costs for sharing by DVD are € 10 to € 20 per patient. Handling costs in the North of the Netherlands for sharing by XDS are only € 2.19 per patient.
The Right Place and the Right Time
Obviously, providing high-quality and fast healthcare services will always be top priority. And XDS contributes fundamentally to that purpose too. An XDS network will ensure that diagnostic images will be available in the right place at the right time. The below video demonstrates how XDS improves healthcare in the North of the Netherlands. Forcare is proud that its XDS platform has provided a sound basis for this.
